Birdy!

I guess you all know her, the girl who sings ‘Skinny love’.

I chose this girl for 2 reasons, the first one is that I like her song, she has an amazing voice, it’s really special! The second reason is that there is a link between our culture and hers. The link is that the girl herself is from England, but her granddad is from Belgium. So, she is a little bit a Belgian star.. ;)
I think it’s amazing how this girl can sing! She is only 15 years old but when she is singing ‘Skinny love’, I get goose bumps all over my body. The way she sings it, is so powerful and just so beautiful! It is really amazing that a fifteen years old girl have a voice like this. Her real name is Jasmine van den Bogaerde, so you hear that her last name is not an English. ‘Skinny love’ was her first international hit. Birdy covered the song, the original song is from Bon Ivers. She is not the first in her family who becomes famous or is talented. Her mom was a concert pianist and her great-uncle was a famous actor. Jasmine learned to play piano when she was 6 years old and when she was 7 years old, she started to write her own songs. In 2008, this musical prodigy won the British talent show ‘Open Mic UK’ at her 12^th. Birdy won the talent show with a song she had written herself and is was titled: ‘So be free’. After this, she got a recording contract. Not only the way she sings ‘Skinny love’ appeals me, but also the video clip of the song pleasures me. It is very sober, but despite that, it tells you a lot. It fits perfect with the song! It is beautiful in all its simplicity. Further, she gives you the impression to put her heart and soul into the song…
And last but not least, she plays the piano herself during the song! Most artists, just sing their song, because they have an amazing voice, but she sings her song, while she plays the music herself! So I think we absolutely may say that she really has a gift!  
I am by the way very curious to know what you think about her and about her songs and the way she brings it. I really think it is amazing and she is very talented! If you are only 15 years old , you have a voice like that and you are able to concern people with your songs, just by your voice, it is really a sign that singing is you destiny!
